Langport residents return to their homes after flooding
2 April 2007
Following a flooding incident at the start of January, South Somerset Homes’ residents were delighted to move back to their refurbished homes during March.
The properties took two months to thoroughly dry out so that they were habitable again. The damage was very severe, e.g. blown electrics, and final costings are yet to be calculated. The flooding incident was caused by a burst main, which is the responsibility of Wessex Water, in an adjacent field.
Throughout the incident South Somerset Homes’ priority was to ensure that all residents were safe, well and in comfortable housing; and the residents are very positive about how the company has efficiently managed the crisis.
As one resident commented, “I can’t praise South Somerset Homes enough. The staff have been very supportive and have done all they can to help us.”
Whilst the properties were vacant, South Somerset Homes used the opportunity to install central heating in the one property which didn’t already have it.
