South Somerset Homes tenant wins art award
3 June 2005

A tenant of South Somerset Homes who lives at a sheltered housing scheme at Ile Court in Ilminster has recently been awarded a certificate of merit for his oil and watercolour paintings. Ken Burt who is 74 years of age has lived at the scheme for three years and has always had a passion for painting for as long as he can remember.

Pictured here is Ken Burt with just a few of his many collections of paintings of local scenes.

Ken entered a national art competition, which celebrates and promotes the talents of the over 60’s and was very surprised when he found out that he had won a certificate of merit.

Ken said, "Winning this award was a pleasant surprise. Painting for me is a hobby but a totally absorbing hobby. It is something that I have always done and is a part of me.”

Ken works primarily in watercolours and oils, painting subjects ranging from local scenes to landscapes and churches.
