New homes for local people in Tatworth

5 June 2007

A new South Somerset Homes development at Kents Cottages in Tatworth will be officially opened by Cllr Kim Turner on Friday 15 June at 12.00 noon. The event will include an opportunity for guests to view one of the beautiful homes which exceed current build standards and have achieved an EcoHomes grading of Very Good, which will help minimise the running cost to our tenants and the impact to our environment.

The new development (constructed in partnership with Rok) consists of four brand new two-bedroom homes for rent.

The land used to build the homes was willingly given up by two South Somerset Homes’ residents who were aware of the acute shortage of affordable housing and wanted to help local people.

District Councillor Kim Turner commented, “I am very proud to celebrate the completion of this South Somerset Homes development. The four homes are essential for the area and help local families remain in the area they were raised”.

County Councillor for Chard South, Jill Shortland has been very supportive of the development and added, “I would like to thank the residents who gave up part of their gardens for this development. If there are any other residents in the area who would like to offer similar land please make contact with either myself or South Somerset Homes”.

Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive of South Somerset Homes added, “South Somerset Homes has enjoyed a tremendous year, with over 200 new affordable homes completed, benefiting local families. I hope the families at Tatworth will be very happy in their new homes”.

Rok's Somerset regional leader Chris Hyde said, "As one of South Somerset Homes' strategic partners for both property maintenance and the building of new homes, we're delighted to be handing over four more new high quality affordable houses that will make a real difference to people wanting to live in the local community."
