South Somerset Homes to regenerate Lowther Road

9 July 2007

South Somerset Homes is celebrating gaining planning permission for the regeneration of the garage area in the Lowther Road area of Yeovil.

The planning application was initially refused by the Council, but after appeal permission was granted to build 29 new affordable homes.

Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive of South Somerset Homes commented, “I am delighted that the planning process has now been upheld and we are able to make this part of Yeovil more pleasant, and also provide essential housing for 29 local families.”

“It is frustrating that we started the planning process at the start of 2006 and 18 months have effectively been wasted - to the detriment of families on the local housing waiting list. We are now looking forward to starting work on the project.”

The new homes will be available for shared ownership and for rent.
