Your opportunity to have a look around a South Somerset Homes’ sheltered scheme
13 August 2007
St Gildas in Chard, one of South Somerset Homes’ extra care sheltered schemes is opening its doors to the public on Wednesday 22 August between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm. Then on Thursday 23 August between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm Kents Lane in Tatworth, one of South Somerset Homes’ sheltered schemes is opening its doors to the public.
The free events will include an opportunity to speak with Claire Adams (Scheme Manager at St Gildas in Chard) and Georgine Stormont (Scheme Manager at Kents Lane, Tatworth), to meet some of the residents, find out about some of the activities enjoyed by residents and tour the facilities.
Sheltered housing is accommodation provided with individually designed support to meet the needs of the individual to live independently as possible within their own homes. Accommodation consists of good quality and affordable self contained flats and bungalows with the added bonus of help and support of a scheme manager. All schemes have a community alarm system and communal lounge where residents can enjoy many varied activities. South Somerset Homes currently has over 50 supported housing schemes.
Extra care housing differs from sheltered housing in that residents benefit from a dedicated care team providing 24 hours a day individual assessed care packages, as well as a higher level of facilities for the disabled. It is most suitable for frail older residents who wish to continue to live independently with the help of care staff as appropriate. South Somerset Homes has 10 extra care schemes throughout South Somerset.
