13 December 2004

Staff at South Somerset Homes have been working hard supporting the 2004 Operation Christmas Child campaign. Staff have been collecting together gifts and packaging them in shoeboxes ready to be sent off to unprivileged children across Eastern and Central Europe. In total over 80 boxes have been collected .

Staff and residents at the extra care sheltered housing scheme at Muchelney House in Ilminster have not only been collecting and packaging shoeboxes full of gifts but have also been a drop off point for other members of the community to drop off their boxes. Residents at St Johns / Chatsworth and Blenheim Roads also collected boxes and staff at the headquarters in Yeovil have also been busy supporting this campaign.

Kate Spry (resident, Muchelney House), Bob Spry (resident, Muchelney House), Pam Pike (Area Representative for Operation Christmas Child) and George Amey (resident, Muchelney House), all helping put together the Christmas boxes

Operation Christmas Child sends a message of hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes and offering booklets of Bible stories. It focuses on the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus Christ. With the help of thousands of volunteers these gift-filled shoeboxes are collected and processed in warehouses across the UK. Then, working with national churches and charities, gifts are delivered to children in hospitals, orphanages, refugee camps, homeless shelters, and impoverished neighbourhoods.
