Residents of South Somerset Homes awarded for their beautiful gardens (Wincanton, Castle Cary and surrounding villages)

14 September 2007

South Somerset Homes recently awarded their residents for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all residents of South Somerset Homes.

This year’s competition attracted over 100 entries in the following categories –

Best Front Garden, Best Back Garden, Best Vegetable Garden, Best Balcony Garden, Best Sheltered Scheme or Road and the Over 80’s Award.

Maureen Emery, Wincanton Town Councillor was one of the judges and commented, “I was very impressed by both the imaginative use of planting and colour plus the obvious hard work that had been put into the gardens entered.”

A presentation ceremony for all the entrants and prize winners took place recently at the Maddocks Pavillion in Wincanton.

The winners are as follows:

Andrew Bendell, Head of Housing Management at South Somerset Homes said, “This competition gives our tenants a fun incentive to take pride in their gardens. Once again, our tenants did not disappoint the judges, who were delighted with the high standard of entries of the beautiful gardens on display. These gardens really have a positive effect on the whole community."
