Sheltered Schemes celebrate 40th anniversary
15 March 2004

Three sheltered housing schemes in Curry Rivel, Somerton and Langport have recently celebrated their 40 th anniversary by hosting a birthday party. Parsonage Place in Curry Rivel, Parsonage Close in Somerton and Portcullis Road in Langport which are all owned and managed by South Somerset Homes were all built as sheltered housing schemes in 1963.

The party was held at the Company headquarters and all residents and staff were invited to come along. Over one hundred residents attended the party where they enjoyed refreshments and entertainment and presentations were made to residents who have lived on each scheme the longest.

Mrs Shirley Kethro has lived at Parsonage Close, Somerton for twenty-two years and enjoys playing bowls and painting. She said, “I love keeping active, it keeps you young.”

Miss Hilda Reading has lived at Portcullis Road, Langport for twenty-three years and enjoys driving her camper van. She said, “ I love going off for drives with my dog Christy and exploring the local area.”

Mrs Violet Chubb has lived at Parsonage Place, Curry Rivel for twenty-nine years and enjoys playing bingo and cooking. She said, “I love cooking, especially cakes.”

The Scheme Managers who organised the party would like to thank the following: Steve and George from Aramark, Yeovilton, The Frantic Threatre Company, Geoff and Sue Grigg, Rosemary Leaf, Carol Dower and CVS Yeovil for all their help.

Jan Masters, Scheme Manager at Parsonage Place, Curry Rivel said at the party “We are all having such a wonderful time, all the hard work has really been worth it to see everyone having such a lovely time.”
