South Somerset Homes complete makeover at sheltered housing scheme

South Somerset Homes has this week completed another makeover at their sheltered housing scheme in Yeovil. The scheme at St John’s Road in Yeovil, which is owned and managed by South Somerset Homes, has had major improvements carried out to the communal room, the residents’ bungalows and the scheme as a whole. The works have been carried out by their partnering builder Connaught.

The works have been undertaken as part of the 5 year decent homes programme and include opening the kitchen up to become a large open plan area and installing new kitchen units, decorating the whole communal room and replacing the old tired furniture with new furniture, curtains and carpets and installing new doors to give wheelchair access. The toilet facilities have also been improved and a shower installed, both of which are now accessible to disabled residents. The former guest bedroom has been converted into an office, which is now used by the scheme manager.

Some of the residents have also had improvement works carried out to their bungalows including new kitchens and in addition to this the external doors to the scheme have been painted.

Lorraine Tailby , Scheme Manager at St John’s Road said, “ We are absolutely thrilled with the works that have been carried out, the communal room is now a bright and airy room which the residents can enjoy spending time in. It has made such a difference and we are really delighted. ”
