Improved disabled access at Sheltered Housing Scheme in Mudford

Hales Meadow sheltered housing scheme in Mudford is celebrating today at the completion of dropped kerbs at the scheme significantly improving the access for many of the disabled residents.

David Laws, Lib Dem MP for Yeovil constituency visited the scheme today to look at the dropped kerbs and other improvements that have been made plus he met and chatted with some of the residents.

The improvements completed are a result of partnership working of the South Somerset Disability Forum, Highways Agency and South Somerset Homes. As well as the dropped kerbs the Highways Agency have also completed other general improvements to the scheme including the resurfacing of some uneven pavements.

Mary Glanville, Scheme Manager at Hales Meadow said, “The residents are absolutely thrilled at what a difference it has made to them. They are able to get out and about much more which they really enjoy.”

The South Somerset Disability Forum is an independent campaigning organisation. They are registered as a charity and aim to improve access to buildings and services for disabled people and other members of the community.
