Many of South Somerset Homes' sheltered schemes took part in the world's largest simultaneous tea and buns party last week in an attempt to make a world record. Residents from sheltered housing schemes took part in the event, which was organised by ERoSH, the national consortium for sheltered and retirement housing.

The Largest Tea and Buns Party in the World, part of ERoSH's 2004 Supporting People At Home Campaign, was held at the same time across England, Northern Ireland and Wales. The record is for the greatest number of people attending tea parties set up by the same organisation simultaneously, at different venues, on one day. ERoSH and its membership have to follow strict guidelines set down by Guinness World Records, which will help to verify the attempt.
The schemes that took part are as follows: St Martins Close, Fivehead; Laburnum Drive and Parsonage Close, Somerton; Eastover/Portcullis Road, Langport; Parsonage Place, Curry Rivel; Buttle Close, Shepton Beauchamp; Barn Crescent, Crewkerne; Chubbs Lawn and Turnpike Green, Crewkerne; Hales Meadow, Mudford; Rodber Gardens and Balsam Close, Wincanton. Drinking tea is a national pastime and the goal of breaking a world record is actually helping to bring communities even closer together.
