Tenants of South Somerset Homes awarded for
their beautiful gardens

(Langport, Somerton, Martock and surrounding villages)
16 October 2006

South Somerset Homes recently awarded their tenants for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all tenants of South Somerset Homes.

This year’s competition attracted over 100 entries in the following categories:

Best Front Garden, Best Back Garden, Best Container Garden / Hanging Basket Garden, Best Theme / Feature Garden, Best Vegetable Garden, Best Road / Sheltered Scheme Garden and Children’s Chance and Colouring Competition.

Mike Gottlieb, Street Scene Supervisor for North and East at South Somerset District Council, was one of the judges and commented, “The gardens entered were all of a very high standard again this year , which made choosing the winners an extremely difficult task.”

A presentation ceremony for all the entrants and prize winners took place recently at Oak Tree House sheltered housing scheme in Stoke Sub Hamdon.

The winners are as follows:

Best Front Garden
1st Donald Stamp, Somerton
2nd Brian & Shirley Collins, Tintinhull
3rd Lorraine Richards, Curry Rivel

Best Back Garden
1st Stan & Marie Inch, Aller
2nd Linda Gardener, Stoke-Sub-Hamdon
3rd John & Julie Foster, Tintinhull

Best Container Garden
1st Louisa Penny, Stoke–Sub-Hamdon
2nd Donald Winter, Somerton
3rd Ethel Edwards, Somerton

Best Feature Garden
1st Cate Woodruff, Curry Rivel

Best Theme Garden
1st Thelma Stamp, Aller (Cottage Garden)

Best Vegetable Garden
1st Cate Woodruff, Curry Rivel

Best Scheme
St Martins Close, Fivehead

David Andrews, Housing Manager at South Somerset Homes said, “Many of our tenants take great pride in their gardens and these awards aim to give them some recognition for their hard work in keeping their gardens so beautiful.”
