South Somerset Homes sets up company to build new homes
18 January 2004
South Somerset Homes has set up a subsidiary company to build 2,500 new affordable homes over the next 10 years. The company, which has been called ‘Yarlington Homes’ after the Yarlington Mill apple and the stately home in Somerset, will act as a design and build agent for South Somerset Homes.
It will also act for the parent within Advantage South West, a limited liability partnership with three other housing associations (Devon and Cornwall, Ocean Housing and North Devon Homes) to increase and speed up the proportion of homes that are built using modern methods of construction.
"Both Yarlington Homes and Advantage South West strengthens South Somerset Homes' ability to influence the supply chain which in turns improves the reliability and deliverability of our programme." said Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive at South Somerset Homes.
South Somerset Homes’ tenants will benefit in that many of the future developments will be the regeneration of existing sites. Old inefficient homes in poor repair will be replaced by new, sustainable more energy efficient homes. A full range of affordable tenures will be provided resulting in more sustainable, inclusive and physically regenerated communities being created.
