South Somerset Homes tenant invited to Buckingham Palace reception in acknowledgement of her work for Brainwave
19 July 2004

(From left to right) Beattie Hector and Maggie Munslow, who are both volunteers at the shop in Langport.

South Somerset Homes tenant Beattie Hector was invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by HRH, The Earl of Wessex in appreciation of her work for Brainwave. Beattie is one of the many willing volunteers at Brainwave's Charity Shop in Bow Street, Langport. She has worked in the shop for eight years, during which time, she and the other volunteers have raised many thousands of pounds for this very worthwhile cause.

Beattie thought the occasion was marvellous. “We were greeted by liveried Palace staff and ushered up the famous red-carpeted grand staircase into the picture gallery, where the reception was held. Whilst it was a very royal occasion, the atmosphere was friendly, relaxed and very enjoyable.”

Brainwave's volunteers are an extremely dedicated and enthusiastic team. If you would like to join them, please contact Pauline Sandford-Smith on 07971 088761, who will be delighted to hear from you.
