South Somerset Homes provides 22 new homes for local people in Chard

20th March 2008

The new Beckington Crescent development in Jocelyn Park, Chard will be officially opened by Chard Town Mayor Martin Wale on Friday 4 th April at 3.00pm. The event will include an opportunity for guests to view one of the beautiful properties which exceed current build standards, which will help minimise the running cost to the residents and the impact to the environment.

The new South Somerset Homes development (constructed in partnership with Mansells) consists of 22 brand new homes for rent and shared ownership. The homes were built using precision engineered off-site manufactured timber frame. The fulcrum around the homes will be completed in the form of Space 4. Space 4 has been developed to address three main challenges in housing delivery; affordability, sustainability, and construction industry skills.

Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive of South Somerset Homes added, “South Somerset Homes is very excited to unveil the first phase of the development in Jocelyn Park. The homes have been constructed to a very high build standard and will provide an affordable opportunity for young families and people of Chard to get on the housing ladder. ”

Martin Wale, Chard Town Mayor commented ‘I am very proud to celebrate the completion of the South Somerset Homes development. The homes are a great asset for the area providing affordable housing for young people. This will help local people and families remain in the area they grew up in.’
