(From left to right) Chris Hyde (Area Director, Rok), Mike Kay (Director of Asset Management, SSH), Mike Roberts (Regional Director, Connaught), Garry Taylor (Calfordseaden), Geoff Atkinson (Chief Executive, SSH)Local housing association, South Somerset Homes are to build over 2500 homes for local people in partnership with Connaught, Rok and Calfordseaden over the next ten years. Mansells will also work on larger one off schemes.
The funding to build these homes will come from a variety of sources, some directly from South Somerset Homes and some from grant funding of which £5.3 million has been secured for the next two years.
The strategic partnership will build a high proportion of the homes with development consultants Calfordseaden providing the designs and plans.
Many of the homes will be constructed using cutting edge building technology in the form of Space4, the UKs largest producer of off site manufactured construction systems . This innovative approach reduces the total construction time by up to 50% and enables the homes to exceed the Government's latest Building Regulation requirements with outstanding thermal performance.
South Somerset Homes are also in discussions with Frame Homes and Selleck Nicholls who provide off site manufacturing construction systems in the South West.
Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive at South Somerset Homes said, “Local people face a double-whammy of very high house prices and lots of low paid jobs.
High house price inflation in recent years has made the problem of getting a foot on the bottom rung of the property ladder more and more difficult.
South Somerset Homes can and will help by providing affordable homes solutions for approximately 2,500 local families.”
