Over 300 local people attend open day
to find out more about home ownership

Over 300 local people attended the open day at South Somerset Homes last week to find out more about home ownership. This included shared ownership which is very simply a ‘stepping stone’ between renting and owning your own home, enabling many local people who cannot afford to buy a house or apartment on the open market, to buy one on a part buy part rent basis.
The open day was held in partnership with South Somerset District Council, Raglan Housing Association, Somer Housing Group, Knightstone Housing Association and Jephson Homes. Also at the open day were Fox & Sons Estate Agents and mortgage lenders Halifax and Abbey.

The open day saw a variety of people through the doors including first time buyers who would like to be able to buy a home but cannot afford to do so and couples and young families who have been looking for rented housing because they thought that they could not afford to buy.

Lynne Axford, Principal Housing Development Officer at South Somerset District Council said, “We are delighted at how many people came along to the open day and it shows just how many people are interested in home ownership. It is such a great feeling to be able to help people to get onto the property ladder, when they think that they cannot afford it.” h.co.u
