South Somerset Homes completes 19 new homes in South Petherton

22 June 2007

The new Mere Lynches Close development in South Petherton will be officially opened by Parish Chairman Rodger Neve and Parish Councillor Margaret Willy on Tuesday 3 rd July at 12.30pm. The event will include an opportunity for guests to view one of the beautiful three-bedroom homes which exceed current build standards and have achieved an EcoHomes grading of Very Good, which will help minimise the running cost to the residents and the impact to the environment.

The new South Somerset Homes development (constructed in partnership with Rok and Frame UK) consists of nineteen new homes ranging from four bedrooms to two bedroom houses. Eleven homes are for rent and the remaining eight are available for shared ownership.

The land used to build the homes was previously a disused garage court and eight PRC houses that had reached the end of their construction life.

Rodger Neve commented, “I am very proud to celebrate the completion of this South Somerset Homes’ development, which has an impressive EcoHomes rating. These homes will be an asset to the Parish ”.

Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive of South Somerset Homes added, “The Mere Lynches Close development is very exciting for South Somerset Homes and includes traditional rent alongside eight shared ownership properties - an affordable option for first-time buyers to enter the property ladder in Somerset”.

Chris Hyde, Somerset regional leader for local builder Rok, said: "Rok is now one of the UK's leading providers of services to the social housing sector and we're delighted to have completed our latest partnership project with South Somerset Homes. These new eco-friendly, high quality homes have regenerated a brownfield site and will make a real difference to the local community."

A photo opportunity will be offered for the local media on Tuesday 3 rd July at 12.30pm. For more information please call Julie Whatford on 01935 404509.
