South Somerset Homes provides 14 families with a new home in Somerton
28 April 2006
South Somerset Homes has provided 14 families and single people with a new home in Somerton. 14 of the 46 homes built at Polham Lane by Midas Homes were sold to South Somerset Homes for affordable housing. The homes, which are a mixture of 1-bedroom apartments and 2 and 3 bedroom houses are all being offered for rent.
All of the apartments and houses have double-glazing, gas central heating, a turfed back garden with a small patio, a shed and water butt as well as courtyard parking.
One of the resident’s who has recently moved into her new 2-bedroom house is Lorraine Maynard, her partner Jason and their daughter Emily.
Lorraine Maynard said, “We are absolutely thrilled with our new home. We had been living with my family in Keinton Mandeville for quite a while and desperately wanted our own place, but still wanted to be near our families. It is just wonderful, Emily has her own bedroom and we have our own space, which is just great.”

Joanne Gale and her son Christopher and daughter Ella Mai were on the transfer list and moved from a 2-bedroom house in Somerton to a 3-bedroom house.
Joanne Gale said, “I am so pleased with my new home, there were times when I thought that we would never get moved; for 6 years I shared a bedroom with my daughter and so now it is absolutely wonderful that both Ella Mai and I have our own bedrooms. I walk around my new home asking myself ‘Is this really mine?’ Compared to my previous home in Somerton this home has so much more room, I even call it ‘my little mansion’, I just love it to bits.”

Geoff Atkinson, Chief Executive at South Somerset Homes said, “This is a great scheme and we are currently on site building over 200 new homes across South Somerset.
