Residents of South Somerset Homes awarded for
their beautiful gardens

(Langport, Somerton, Martock and surrounding villages)

South Somerset Homes recently awarded their residents for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all residents of South Somerset Homes.

This year’s competition attracted over 100 entries in the following categories –

Best Front Garden, Best Back Garden, Best Vegetable Garden, Best Balcony Garden, Best Sheltered Scheme and the Over 80’s Award.

Tony Targett, Team Leader for North and East Horticultural team at South Somerset District Council, was one of the judges and commented, “The gardens entered were all of a very high standard again this year , which made choosing the winners an extremely difficult task.”

A presentation ceremony for all entrants and prize winners took place recently at Muchelney House extra care sheltered housing scheme in Ilminster.

The winners are as follows:

Best Front Garden
1st Wendy Webb, Ile Abbot
JOINT 2nd Florence Gage, Barrington
JOINT 2nd Bill & Lorraine Richards, Curry Rivel

Best Back Garden
1st Wendy Webb, Ile Abbot
2nd May Easman & Miss Ivy Higdon
3rd Wyn Shore , Curry Rivel

Best Vegetable Garden
1 st Cate Woodruff, Curry Rivel

Best Scheme
1st Parsonage Place, Curry Rivel
2nd Buttle Close, Shepton Beauchamp
3rd St. Martins Close, Fivehead

Best Over 80’s Award
1st Violet Smith, Ilton
JOINT 2nd Louisa Penny, Stoke Sub Hamdon (Joint)
JOINT 2 nd Robert Foster Fivehead (Joint)

David Andrews, Housing Manager at South Somerset Homes said, “Many of our tenants take great pride in their gardens and these awards aim to give them some recognition for their hard work in keeping their gardens so beautiful.”
