South Somerset Homes complete makeover at sheltered housing scheme in South Petherton
29 September 2006

South Somerset Homes has this week completed another makeover at their sheltered housing scheme in South Petherton. The scheme at Pitway in South Petherton, which is owned and managed by South Somerset Homes, has had major improvements carried out to the communal room, the residents’ bungalows and the scheme as a whole. The works have been carried out by their partnering builder Connaught. To celebrate the makeover Connaught provided cream teas for the residents and prizes for a game of bingo.

The works have been undertaken as part of the 5 year decent homes programme and include opening up the communal room to include a large open plan kitchen area and installing new kitchen units, decorating the whole communal room and replacing the old tired furniture with new furniture, curtains and carpets and installing new doors to give wheelchair access. The toilet facilities have also been improved and a shower installed, both of which are now accessible to disabled residents. The residents also have a new laundry room and guest bedroom with en-suite and the scheme manager has a new office. The former scheme manager’s accommodation has been converted into a new general needs flat.

Vicky Saunders, Scheme Manager at Pitway sheltered scheme said, “We are absolutely thrilled with the works that have been carried out, the communal room is now like stepping into a brand new building. It has made such a difference and we are so pleased. ”
