On Friday 29th October 2004 staff at South Somerset Homes got into the pink spirit and swapped their usual office attire and donned their pink garments – ranging from t-shirts and socks to hats, shoes and shirts – in support of the ‘Wear it Pink' Breast Cancer Campaign.
Everybody donated £2 and in doing South Somerset Homes raised over £200. Coffee mornings were also held at various South Somerset Homes owned schemes and tenants and members of staff all wore pink. Pearson House Extra Care Scheme in Yeovil raised £69, Bearley House Extra Care Scheme in Martock raised £39 and Davies Close Sheltered Housing Scheme in Winsham raised £24.

The Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the United Kingdom.
Increasing research into breast cancer is vital as one woman in nine will develop breast cancer during her lifetime in the UK - this means 40,470 women face diagnosis of breast cancer every year. Men too can also develop breast cancer, they account for 240 new cases and 90 deaths a year in the UK.
