Tenants of South Somerset Homes awarded for their beautiful gardens

South Somerset Homes recently awarded their tenants for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all tenants of South Somerset Homes.

This year's competition attracted over 100 entries in the following categories –

Best Front Garden, Best Back Garden, Best Container Garden, Best Theme Garden, Best Feature Garden and Children's Chance.

Chris Cooper, Horticultural Services Manager at South Somerset District Council, was one of the judges and commented, “The gardens entered were all of a very high standard, which made choosing the winners an extremely difficult task.”

A presentation ceremony for all the entrants and prize winners took place recently at Oak Tree House sheltered housing scheme in Stoke Sub Hamdon.

The winners were as follows:

Best Front Garden
1st Prize – Violet Smith, Ilton
2nd Prize – Charles Lawrence, Fivehead
3rd Prize – David Bellew, South Petherton

Best Back Garden
1st Prize – Winifred Shore, Curry Rivel
2nd Prize – Stan and Marie Inch, Aller
3rd Prize – Florence Gage, High Ham

Best Container Garden
1st Prize – Donald Stamp, Somerton
2nd Prize – Thelma Stamp, Aller
3rd Prize – Joyce Winter, Somerton

Best Theme Garden
1st Prize – David Bellew, South Petherton
2nd Prize – David and Anne Ellis, Martock
3rd Prize – Kenneth Pyle, Curry Rivel
