Tenants of South Somerset Homes awarded for their beautiful gardens
(Wincanton, Castle Cary and surrounding villages)

South Somerset Homes recently awarded their tenants for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all tenants of South Somerset Homes.

This year's competition attracted over 100 entries in the following categories –

Best Front Garden, Best Back Garden, Best Container Garden, Best Theme Garden, Best Feature Garden and Children's Chance.

Maureen Emery, ex-proprietor of Charlton Nurseries, was one of the judges and commented, “I was very impressed by both the imaginative use of planting and colour plus the obvious amount of hard work that had been put into the gardens entered.”

A presentation ceremony for all the entrants and prize winners took place recently at Sparkford Parish Hall.

The winners were as follows:

Best Front Garden
1st Prize – Beryl Champion, Queen Camel
2nd Prize – Muriel Sweet, Castle Cary
3rd Prize – Bill Tallon, Sparkford

Best Back Garden
1st Prize – Geoffrey Tryhorn, Templecombe
2nd Prize – Bill Tallon, Sparkford
3rd Prize – Faith Barker, Somerton

Best Container Garden
1st Prize – Frank and Barbara Eaton, Bruton
2nd Prize – Patricia Lampert, Wincanton
3rd Prize – Edgar and Sheila Law, Ilchester

Best Theme Garden
1st Prize – Faith Barker, Somerton
2nd Prize – Gerald and June Reynolds, Bruton
3rd Prize – Edward Marsh, Sparkford

Best Feature Garden
1st Prize – Terry, Martin and Mandy Goodland, Bruton
2nd Prize – Edward Marsh, Sparkford
3rd Prize – Bill Tallon, Sparkford

Peter Sparks, Housing Manager at South Somerset Homes said, “Many of our tenants take great pride in their gardens and these awards aim to give them some recognition for their hard work in keeping their gardens so beautiful.”
