Residents from the scheme and members of her family got together to provide Kay a wonderful party to remember the day.
Kay was born in Leeds, and went to India at a young age. She moved back
to Leeds when she was 10 years old, and then to Westfield Road, Yeovil in
1924. Kay's first job was as a secretary in Yeovil and quickly moved onto proof reading. When she met her husband (Jim) she moved to Gloucester where she lived from the mid 1930s to 1948, when she returned to Yeovil living in Marsh Lane until the death of her husband when she moved to Winston Drive.
In the 1960s Kay became heavily involved with St Peters Church in Yeovil where she played the organ. She is well-known for her work with St Johns
Ambulance, where she was Superintendent of the Yeovil Division later becoming an Area Officer. On her retirement she was made a Serving Sister.
Kay's hobbies included flower arranging, public speaking and entertaining by giving recitations. She is a committed Christian and was a stalwart at St Johns Church undertaking many varied responsibilities. She still manages to attend the Guild from time to time.
Kay's secret to reaching her centenary is to keep an active mind, and
she even returned to Yeovil College at the age of 83 and passed GCSE
English at the top 'A' grade. This accomplishment was praised by
Yeovil's former MP, Paddy Ashdown. Even today, Kay enjoys playing
Scrabble.
