Tenants of South Somerset Homes awarded for
their beautiful gardens
(Huish Episcopi, Somerton and surrounding villages)

Andrew Bendell, Head of Housing Management at South Somerset Homes (back row centre) who presented the winners with their photos of their gardens and certificates. All those who attended the presentation ceremony, which include many of the prize winners, the judges, Tenant Panel Members and South Somerset Homes staff surround him.

South Somerset Homes have recently awarded their tenants for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all tenants of South Somerset Homes.

This year's competition had many categories including Best Garden, Best Container Garden, Best 14” Pot, Best Scarecrow and Best Poem for those tenants who do not have a garden.

Nelson Rutigliano, a Tenant Panel Member was one of the judges and commented “The gardens entered were all of a very high standard which made choosing the winners an extremely difficult task.”

A presentation ceremony for all prize winners took place recently at Oaktree House Sheltered Scheme in Stoke-Sub-Hamdon.

The winners were as follows:

Best Garden

1 st Prize - Linda Gardener of Stonehill, Stoke sub Hamdon

2 nd Prize - David Bellew of Lightgate Villas, South Petherton

Best Container Garden

1 st Prize - Wendy Webb of Manor Road, Isle Abbotts

2 nd Prize - Mr & Mrs Stanley Inch of Orchard Place, Aller

Best 14” Pot

1 st Prize – David Bellew of Lightgate Villas, South Petherton

2 nd Prize – Donald Stamp of Laburnum Drive, Somerton

Best Scarecrow

1 st Prize – Rachel Chainey and her family of East Street, Drayton

Best Poem

1 st Prize - Sandra Curtis of Piece Lane, Shepton Beauchamp

2 nd Prize - Winifred Shore of Parsonage Place, Curry Rivel

David Andrews, Housing Manager at South Somerset Homes said, “Many of our tenants take great pride in their gardens and these awards aim to give them some recognition for their hard work in keeping their gardens so beautiful.”
