Tenants of South Somerset Homes awarded for
their beautiful gardens
(Yeovil and surrounding villages)
4 November 2003

South Somerset Homes have recently awarded their tenants for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all tenants of South Somerset Homes.

This year's competition had many categories including Best Garden, Best Front Garden, Best Back Garden and Best Container Garden.

Councillor Charles Bowers who was one of the judges commented “I thought that all the gardens were marvellous, it was quite incredible how much dedication and hard work had been put into them.”

A presentation ceremony for all the prize winners took place recently at Malmesbury Court Extra Care Sheltered Housing Scheme in Yeovil.

The winners were as follows:

Best Garden

1 st Prize – Mrs Janet Gifford – England of Southview, Barwick

2 nd Prize – Mr Nigel Higgins of Belvedere Road, Yeovil

Best Front Garden

1 st Prize – Mrs Winifred Attwell of Westfield Place, Yeovil

2 nd Prize – Mrs P Woolmington of Lakefields, West Coker

Best Back Garden

1 st Prize – Mrs Barbara Curwen of Bridleway, Barwick

2 nd Prize – Mr Donald & Mrs Doris Moore of Pembroke Close, Yeovil

Best Container Garden

1 st – Mrs Shirley Pitcher, Westfield Place, Yeovil

2 nd – Mr Gordon Hawkins, Bridleway, Barwick

Peter Sparks, Housing Manager at South Somerset Homes said, “Many of our tenants take great pride in their gardens and these awards aim to give them some recognition for their hard work in keeping their gardens so beautiful.”
