Tenants of South Somerset Homes awarded for
their beautiful gardens
(Wincanton, Castle Cary and surrounding villages)
4 November 2003

South Somerset Homes have recently awarded their tenants for keeping such beautiful colourful gardens. This is an annual event, which is open to all tenants of South Somerset Homes.

This year's competition attracted over sixty entries in the following categories Best Flower Bed, Best Lawn, Vegetables, Pots/Boxes, Hanging Baskets, Theme, Unusual, Community Garden and Special Commendation.

Julian Shave from the Horticultural Team at South Somerset District Council was one of the judges and commented “I was very impressed by both the imaginative use of planting and colour plus the obvious amount of hard work that had been put into the gardens entered.”

A presentation ceremony for all the prize winners took place recently at Catherine's Close Sheltered Housing Scheme in Castle Cary.

The winners were as follows:

Best Flower Bed

1 st Prize - Anne Stewart-White of Summerfields, Henstridge

2 nd Prize -Ted Marsh of Green Close, Sparkford

Best Lawn

1 st Prize - Ted Marsh of Green Close, Sparkford

2 nd Prize - William Tallon of Green Close, Sparkford

Vegetables

1 st Prize - John Dray of Dukes Close, Wincanton

2 nd Prize - Doug Castle of Penn View, Wincanton

Pots/Boxes

1 st Prize - Frank & Barbara Eaton of Brue Avenue, Bruton

2 nd Prize - Anne Stewart-White of Summerfields, Henstridge

Hanging Baskets
