Advantage South West

Using modern methods of contruction

www.advantagesw.co.uk

In response to the shift towards using modern methods of construction South Somerset Homes are working with Devon and Cornwall Housing Association, Ocean Housing Group and North Devon Homes in a formal arrangement of a limited liability partnership called Advantage South West. Its objective is to increase and speed up the proportion of homes that are built using modern methods of construction which is recognised as being the most cost effective energy efficient and sustainable solution for affordable homes.

In turn Advantage South West has secured specific agreements with two Cornwall based timber frame manufacturers Frame UK and Advance Panel Systems. The large and highly reliable volume of work, which the association partners can offer to the factories, allowed them to invest in new technology to produce a precision quality product, which is made by computers not carpenters.

South Somerset Homes has been awarded the 2006 Winner for Innovation in Procurement by the Housing Corporation's Gold Award for Excellence.

The Gold Award competition is about recognising excellence in housing provision, sharing cutting-edge knowledge with the housing sector. It is intended to raise the quality of housing provision for millions of residents across the country.

South Somerset Homes won the award in partnership with the three other housing associations from Advantage South West.
