Within this year’s development programme are three “Carbon Neutral” schemes (or as close to Carbon Neutral as possible) for which we are aiming to investigate the use of Solar Power, Ground Source Heat and Warm Air Recycling. These schemes are intended to inform the development team on achieving the highest target levels within the Code for Sustainable Homes so that we can help reduce the impact to our environment, lower tenants’ bills and maintain SSH’s place as leaders in our field. The three pilot projects will be in the following locations:
South Cadbury
We are building two 2-bedroom bungalows on the edge of a desirable rural settlement available for shared ownership. Local people will have priority allocation. The properties have been designed to meet very high ecological standards. They will be fitted with Solar Panels, Air Source Heat Pump and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery. This will reduce the impact on our environment and lower resident’s running costs. For more information visit the shared ownership page Shared Ownership
Hales Meadow, Mudford
The two new bungalows will be 2 bedroomed and for persons of retirement age. It is important that the new residents are keen to live in a home which is specially designed to be environmentally friendly and who will inform our development team of their experiences. If you would like to move to one of these new homes then please contact Wendy Ostler, Lettings Officer on 01935 404637 or write to her at South Somerset House, Alvington, Yeovil BA22 8WN.
Hardy Court , Crewkerne
Hardy Court , Crewkerne is an exciting new development of two three-bed houses and two two-bed flats. The development is one of three sustainable home pilot projects designed to learn and understand more about future building technologies from both a technichal viewpoint and also importantly from an occupiers perspective.
