How to pay your rent

Your rent is due in advance whether you decide to pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly. We offer the following options to assist you in paying your rent:

Direct Debit - At the Bank and most Building Societies

If you have a bank account the simplest and most convenient way to pay is by direct debit. Rent for the full year is divided into 12 monthly payments, which your bank or building society pays direct to South Somerset Homes. You can choose to make these payments on either the 7th or the 28th of each month. If your rent is changed we give you and your bank/building society at least 14 days notice of the new monthly payment.

This is our preferred method of payment and if you wish to change to this method please phone 01935 404541.

Over the telephone – Debit Card

Payments can be made directly from your bank account by telephoning South Somerset Homes 01935 404540 and quoting your bank card details.

This method can be used to pay any type of rent or charge, either over the phone or when calling in person at South Somerset Homes HQ in Alvington. Please have your debit card details and account number to hand when you phone.

Standing Order - At the Bank, Post Office or Building Societies

Payment of a 1, 2, or 4 weekly standing order is similar to direct debit but not as simple because each time your rent changes you will have to fill out a new standing order form. Your local housing office will provide you with a form if you wish to pay by standing order from your bank or building society account.

Should you wish to pay by this method you must phone 01935 404541 to request a form.

Paypoint

You can pay your rent at any Paypoint Outlet using your swipe card. These are available throughout the country generally situated in local shops, look out for the sign.

Using your payment card is easy but remember that PayPoint will only accept cash

PayPoint outlets: Post Office, South Somerset Homes Cash Office * SSDC Cash Office **

Cheque

Cheques should be made payable to South Somerset Homes, South Somerset House, Alvington, Yeovil BA22 8WN and please quote your name, address and account number on the reverse. It is easier to phone using your Debit Card. Please do not send cash in the post.

Post Office

Your rent can be paid in cash or by cheque at any post office by Girobank Transcash. Simply take your swipe card to the post office - there is no charge for this service. Do remember, though, that it takes several days for the money to be received by South Somerset Homes, so to make sure that your rent arrives on time you should pay the week before it is due.

Post

You can pay your rent by sending a crossed cheque or postal order, made payable to South Somerset Homes and posted to South Somerset Homes, South Somerset House, Alvington, Yeovil BA22 8WN. Remember to quote your reference number whenever you send a payment and never send cash through the post.

Banks

You can pay your rent at any bank using your swipe card. However, unless you use your own branch, the bank may make a charge for this service. As with Post Offices, it takes several days for the money to be received by South Somerset Homes, so to make sure that your rent arrives on time you should pay the week before it is due.
