History

South Somerset Homes was formed in 1999 to provide affordable rented housing for the people of South Somerset. We offer homes to singles, couples, families and retirement housing for older people. We own, manage and maintain 8300 homes in Yeovil, Chard, Wincanton, Langport and surrounding villages. We also have 53 older person's schemes, ten of which are extra care, which provide housing and care for 1600 residents.

We are a not-for-profit organisation known as a 'registered social landlord' and are regulated by the Housing Corporation. South Somerset Homes reports to its own Board. The board consists of 12 members, made up of four local independent professionals, four tenants of South Somerset Homes and four councillors from South Somerset District Council. Their services are voluntary and their aim is to provide a total commitment to affordable housing within South Somerset.

We have about 260 employees, based primarily at Yeovil, either within the headquarters/area office or at the responsive repairs depot, plus we have an area office at Chard.
