Help Towards Paying Your Rent

It is your responsibility to claim housing benefit, and any claim will not start until you have completed a claim form, however, there are many different agencies that can assist you with making a claim. See useful links page

For further information please refer to South Somerset District Councils website

Benefits Calculator

By using this calculator you will get an approximate idea of how much benefit you could claim.  However, if you are only entitled to partial housing benefit then you should make interim rent payments, until your claim is assessed.

If in doubt make a claim!

As soon as your claim is assessed you will receive official notification from South Somerset District Council and you should then contact the Debt Recovery & Prevention Team, to ensure that your rent account is not in arrears.

Please advise the Housing Benefit Department straight away if your personal circumstances change, as it may affect your claim.

Specialist Welfare & Benefit Advice is also available from the Debt Prevention & Recovery Team's Welfare & Benefits Officer.
